What we do

At The Nourished Mumma we have a strong focus on supporting mummas and their children with nutrition and dietetics during the first 1000 days. The first 1000 days specifically refers to the period from conception to the end of a child’s second year of life. It is a critical window of opportunity to influence your child’s long term health and well being. Early life nutrition can decrease the risk of a child developing chronic diseases well into their adult life. Good nutrition during this period can decrease the risk of diabetes, obesity, heart disease and it can even reduce the risk of food allergies.

Food Psychology Consultations

Shauna Spencer is also a registered psychologist specialising in the area of weight management and emotional eating. She has over 10 years experience helping women to improve their relationship with food, eating, weight and their body image.

Mummas that have unhealthy relationships with food and their bodies often unknowingly role model these behaviours in front of their children. Developing healthy relationships with food and body image not only benefits the mother’s overall well-being but it can also benefit the child. Role modelling of healthy food and body image behaviours can positively impact on a child’s relationship with food and the way that child sees their own body.

Creating changes to your relationship with food requires an understanding of the psychological drivers behind your food choices. Often these psychological drivers are overlooked when someone provides nutrition advice. A psychologist that specialises in the psychology of food, eating and weight can help to identify these factors and provide psychological tools and strategies to improve your relationship with food and your body image.
